Nursery Management Software to Enhance Your EYFS for Your Children, Parents and Business
“Since implementingsparkPRO 18 months ago, practitioners have commented on how they feel that their knowledge and understanding of the child has improved. Practitioners feel they know exactly what their key children are capable of achieving, enabling them to plan individually and accurately.”
“No longer do we have children making different rates of progress depending on the experience of their keyworker!sparkensures EVERY member of staff can support EVERY child.”
“Best software around especially for early years; helps you tune in to every individual child, great support from the team and always happy to help. Perfect tool to reduce time away from the children at the heart of it and great from a managers point of view to narrow the gaps A*****”
Here is a transcript of the audio from the introdoction to spark:
spark is modular, covering four broad aspects, children’s learning and development, safeguarding, administration, and there is also extra software options for parents.
This is an introduction to one of the modules, sparkPRO. sparkPRO offers a balanced way of working. Observations are quick and are used to give a range of ideas for planning the child’s learning, all on the go. Everything is automatically cross-referenced helping to identify each child’s strengths and where support may be necessary.
sparkPRO also encourages reflective practice to impact upon future success.sparkPRO facilitates and encourages all adults to be actively involved in nurturing the child’s learning and development in a stage-appropriate way and promotes great communication to build upon relationships.
Your team spend all their time with their key children rather than needing time out to write up notes and plan. There’s no need to take work home and ratios are maintained without the need to finance staff cover.
The overall aim is to help get everything right for the child during this time of rapid brain development, 90% of which is grown before school.
sparkPRO helps the practitioner, parents, and managers work in a consistent way to meet each individual child’s needs and build upon the provider’s reputation. sparkPRO provides a holistic, developmental journey, consistent support for all involved to scaffold learning appropriately alongside each child’s interests and learning behaviours. Meanwhile, providing automated, easy-to-decipher information to ensure no child is left behind or understimulated, to support early identification and diagnosis for children with SEND, to measure impact and to inform improvement plans.
It really is a powerful, deep-thinking sort of software. So, here’s a taste of what sparkPRO covers. The home screen changes with the seasons or world events. There’s a place on the left for messages to the whole team and on the right messages from us at spark. Above, is the communication panel. Today, I’m showing everything, but this will only show what is pertinent for the member of staff who has signed on securely and the other modules purchased. So, for me, I see safeguarding messages from the team through to communications from parents and their observations.
Let’s go through some of the navigation options. Currently, we’re on the homepage. From here, we will look at one of the children. I can add personal information for each child, including background information to encompass their unique, personal circumstances. sparkPRO offers different ways of working with parents. The spark@HOMEapp is one way which can be connected here. This is where observations are stored but I’ll show you the learning stories which go to the parents in real-time, useful to give parents peace of mind when settling their child in. Or, like this one, to share with the child when back home supporting recall, extending language, and linking up each type of environment for the child’s wellbeing.
Here, you will find letters and sounds, and numerals in your own currency. Other concepts that might, for example, be moved onto paper are linked to what has been observed in the child’s play first, steering the adult to facilitate only appropriate activities in a more formal way.
There are a range of planners if you choose to use them. At the top, you have the planner for your learning spaces, and with the children’s interests in mind, how you might like to enhance the areas to extend learning opportunities. Focus Plan enables even students to sit with an activity and provide the resources and support each child as they join in, support to match and extend their current skills.
Scaffolding Ideas is exactly that, suggestions on what could be facilitated to build upon what each child already knows and can do, these chosen by the educator to suit the child as appropriate.
Cross-referencing goes on behind the scenes but it’s important to have good understanding and evaluate. Everything is organised to encourage educators to think how they can implement things differently to support children’s progress. These reports support the literacy skills of the team and need very little checking before giving to parents. They’re quick and easy to do. Parents are encouraged to give feedback online if using the learning journey profile. Everyone, other carers and professionals, along with the parents, can take part with the Progress Check. I’ll come back to Reports at the end.
Although we will give you personal support at the beginning, and on an ongoing basis as required, you have access to a complete series of videos that illustrate each feature in sparkTUTOR. There are two Upkeeps. Each allow the software to be personalised for parents or overall for your nursery preschool. Here, you have access to spark Diary and spark Safeguarding should you want these modules. Lastly, here’s the information all about the software.
Now, we’re just going back to the Reports so you can see there are lots you can choose to use. There’s a range of PRO’s reports, graphs and charts, general information, planners, and this top section is about reflecting and improvement. All can be downloaded, printed, or sent by email.
So, please get in touch, ask your questions, or request your demo, and let’s go from there.

Information not remembered can be quickly accessed and given to the parent.
Children flourish. spark has been designed to flow with the child’s interests, building upon what they already know and can do, in a ‘use on the go’ format, so learning and adult-child interactions are not impeded.

4. Save on staff training and narrow in to use your training budget well
“sparkis certainly a powerful piece of software with an array of possibilities for analysis and feedback. The next steps are what I really like. It feels like software that is ‘malleable’ to the needs of the setting too – not didactic which is a big positive. In a way, it is like a training tool for staff too that brings into focus the children and their needs.” – Greg Bottrill, an early years expert in the power of play
The software (whichever sort) provides ongoing support and guidance for each hierarchical level.
spark supports less able or inexperienced staff in understanding and to appropriately deliver the EYFS curriculum confidently.
Evaluation and writing reports are less laborious Ref C, as staff are supported through the processes and with their literacy skills.
All staff are encouraged to evaluate their ‘teaching strategies’ against each of their Key Children’s progress in a particular field (Areas of Learning, Characteristics of Effective Learning, Sustained Shared Thinking, Involvement, Phonics etc.). Therefore, upskilling is a continual process.
Using spark supports professional conversations with parents and external professionals (LA, Ofsted, Case Reviews etc.).
Information is available for staff supervision and appraisals.
Data and evaluations indicate who and what teams need additional support. This approach enables management to take accurate measures to upskill effectively (mentoring, individual or group training). So there can be a targeted focus on training expenditure and the difference it has made.
