Does Early Years or EYFS software differ?

Spark EYFS software

Does Early Years or EYFS software differ?

Back to EYFS Questions

Yes.

There will be differences in:
– Who is making the software; an early years provider, early years team or IT company
– The country of origin
– The size of the company
– The content of the software; admin, curriculum, safeguarding, communication (and then about what?) …
– What data is stored and for how long
– A modular system where you buy parts or one that involves everything the company wishes to offer
– The size of the company; take a large or small market share
– Who is the target customer; schools, chains, individual sites, childminders
– Type of customer care/support given; by person to person, through video, by forums
– Contracts; none, rolling, minimum time
– Set up fees/not
– Basic free package, guarantees
– Charges for training or not
– If integrated with any other types/makes of software, such as, for accounting, the EYFS or administration
– How the fees are calculated; banded, by the child, by place, by features
– How the fees are paid; monthly, termly, annually
– Extras; to store more data, additional vat, service packages
– How the data is stored; cloud-based, in-house …
– Security features and backup schedules

Then there is the actual content:

  • The ethos of the company; their values, motives, ambitions
  • Who does it service/designed for; childcare staff, for managers, for business owners, for parents, for external professionals, for other providers, for parents and for the children
  • Which EYFS guidance they follow; Development Matters, Birth to Five Matters Guidance or something else
  • What features are provided
  • How features are presented
  • Range of reporting
  • Types of available analysis
  • The tools included; other ‘curriculums’ or guidance, e.g. ECat, Leuven Scales …
  • Structure of the software; web apps, mobile apps, portals, used offline, particular tablets …

Then there will be the range of benefits gained, dependent upon all of the above.
