MY MISSION: – To affirm that our spark early years software aligned with Froebel.

So, when I saw an advert on social media to attend a setting using Froebel’s principles holding an open day for the Froebel Trust, I signed up. It was so popular I had to wait several months.

At the crack of dawn, I travelled two and a half hours to meet Sally Cave, the headteacher at The Guildford Nursery School and Family Centre. A superb visit and I would recommend it. A spacious, well-resourced state-funded nursery school with happy children, and lots of play!

As I told Sally, I am an avid CPD participant and take different pedagogical practices and theories on board. However, I can never recall where I get them after digesting and implementing them.

In my nurseries, it was always about taking the best bits of what I learnt on board, sharing it with the teams, and embedding practice. Making our own method, doing things our way to ‘get it right’ for each child.

I was gratified to find my mindset is Froebelian. I felt very aligned with Sally and the excellent opportunities in her setting. Also, pleased to confirm that sparkPRO can undoubtedly be used by those wishing to follow Froebel’s principles. Frobel believed young children learn best through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences.  Play is a child’s natural learning mode and should be the central focus of educational activities.

The Froebel Trust (www.thefroebelpartnership.co.uk) offer short online training courses, which I intend to join! I want to reflect, evaluate and readjust, as/if necessary, what spark provides.

spark is about enabling, evaluating, and enhancing practice. I have to do that, too, to help professional educators and parents get it right for each child.
