The need to think about brain development when setting up EYFS learning environments is not done consciously in our preschools and day nurseries.

In this sparkDEBATE with Dr. Kathryn Murray, it quickly becomes apparent that we should think more deeply about children’s brain development.

Kathryn has developed a whole pedagogy on how to embrace the current knowledge we have about the brain and how to use that to support teaching and learning. Starting with how to help children feel secure. Kathryn puts it across to promote “a calm brain is a thinking brain”.

This video has many points to reflect upon, both from the child’s and adult’s perspectives.
